Malaysian Smallholders' Force

Who we are?

Smallholders is an economic entity, representing group of rural farmers engaged in planting of comodity crops; mainly rubber, oil palm, cocoa, pineapple etc.
Statistically, they contribute 96% of the total rubber and 40% of total production of palmoil in Malaysia.

What's so important of them?

In 2008, rubber smallholders contribute approximately 26billion MYR to the Malaysia's GDP. So you guys do math. As for the oil palm industry, in 2007 itself, smallhalders contribute 33billion MYR, its more then enough income to buy 30 units of boeing 747. Is it?

What's the productivity of the rubber smallholders?

According to research by Malaysian Rubber Board, the potential yield for high yielding clones eg; RRIM 2015, 2017, 2025 is 3000 kg per hectare per year. Why do the smallholders produce only 1500 kg per hectare per year on the average? What has the Government Agencies like Rubber Smallholders Development Authority (RISDA) done so far? Does the extention activities of RISDA has been successful to increase the productivity of the smallholders after 37 years of establishment? Do we need another agency to take over the extension activities of RISDA? We will go into further discussion in our next blog...

That is all from now, see you again guys..........1 Malaysia
